Although displaying the same attacking beat as in the Hinrunde match that concluded 5-4 in the Green Whites favour, the match between 1899 and Werder at Rhein-Neckar-Arena ended in scoreless draw...ähnliches nur ohne Tore.
For the most part Herbstmeisters 1899 had the greater chances, albeit "chances" mean little when they fail to find the netting with Boubacar Sanogo personally punishing the goalposts on three separate occasions. That said, victory for Werder came close with Claudio Pizzaro missing twice after the break in situations he would normally close out.
Following the match Klaus Allofs said:
"This point really doesn't help too much our goal of moving up the table. We are running in place, but at least the game wasn't a step back.
"Getting a point here and there does not help. But we have to keep going. You see from other results what can happen if you put together a streak of wins. We don't want to blame ourselves for not believing. We will continue to give the Bundesliga our top attention. I am convinced that this team has the potential."
