Terek Grozny defeats Sibir Novosibirsk

Chechnya-based Terek Grozny spoiled Sibir Novosibirsk's debut in the Rosgosstrakh Championship of Russia with 2-0 defeat at Spartak Stadium.

In a hard-fought match, Grozny took the lead at the fortieth minute as Andrei Kobenko, controlled Hector Bracamonte’s volley on the left side of the box before deftly sending the ball beyond the outstretched hands of Sibir goalkeeper Wojciech Kowalewski to the far corner of net.

Grozny doubled the lead four minutes shy of the hour when Shamil Asildarov continued his goal-scoring spree at Spartak Nalchik last year as he nodded in a volley from ten metres out. Sibir showed no quit and looked to cut the margin in half but Aleksei Medvedev’s goal was marked off with a dubious, late offside call. The Siberian's saw Denis Bukhryakov harshly shown his second yellow card at the eighty-seventh minute but regardless of the questionable call, the day belonged to Terek Grozny who left Siberia with a 2-0 victory.

Lokomotiv Moskva keeps chugging along with 4-0 win over Terek Grozny

Vladimir Maminov's unbeaten string at the end of Lokomotiv Moskva continued as his side devoured Terek Grozny 4-0. Despite urging patience when he took over, Mr. Maminov has restored the pride and passion of Lokomotiv only as a playing veteran of sixteen seasons could and has moved them to the top half of the table.

With Dmitri Sychev and Diniyar Bilyaletdinov out of the starting eleven, Lokomotiv's attacking trident comprised the highly promising Aleksandr Minchenkov, Peter Odemwingie and Romanian international Răzvan Cociş. Lokomotiv took the lead thirteen minutes in a Peter Odemwingie outraced Grozny defender Sergei Bendz to a long ball to the right before slotting it to the near post past 'keeper Rizavdi Edilov. The young Grozny goalkeepers day was made worse with a dreadful piece of defending as eight minutes prior to the hour as a long free-kick from the right was headed on by Răzvan Cociş into the box and after both Radoslav Zabavník and Jean Bouli failed to clear, Peter Odemwingie drove the loose ball in from inside the six yard box to make it 2-0. Four minutes past the hour Grozny was forced to play a man down as former Rapid Bucureşti-man Daniel Pancu was shown his second yellow-card of the day. Only a minute later Renat Yanbayev was the architect of the third goal as he drew the ball back from the byline to Dennis Glushakov who closed out perfectly from close-range. As time ran down Grozny were victimized by a less than memorable goal as David Mujiri's corner from the left skipped into the net and in without being touched.

Spartak Moskva finds winning form under Valery Karpin

While only a temporary solution the Valery Karpin "era" for Spartak Moskva began with an important 2-0 victory over Terek Grozny. While the victory wasn't "convincing" and it was obvious the Spartak machine is not running on full cylinders, the return to the win column was important. Although there have been many high profile managers noted for the vacant position, Mr. Karpin's words prior to the match has been cited as the beacon to guide the players through tumultous times. In his first decisions as manager Russian U-21 keeper Soslan Dzhanayev was handed goalkeeping duties and youngsters Yevgeni Makeyev and Artem Dzyuba entered the starting eleven. After a scoreless start to the match veteran Denis Boyarintsev was the source of the opening goal as his cross into the box was parried out by Grozny 'keeper Andriy Dikan straight to Vladimir Bystrov to which the Russian international plowed the ball into the back of the net. Ten minutes later with Grozny exposed in the back, Spartak leap on the counter with Artem Dzyuba provided Welliton for a perfect finish from the top of the box to bring the match to the final 2-0 scoreline.
