Wolfsburg defeats Eintracht Frankfurt 2-0

In a well played match Wolfsburg defeated Eintracht Frankfurt 2-0 for their first victory of the campaign away from Volkswagen Arena. With the victory the club is now only three points behind fourth place Bayer 04 Leverkusen and Hamburger SV.

There were no real surprises in the Wolfsburg lineup, although it is clear that Peter Pekarík, formerly of MŠK Žilina, has quickly displacing Cristian Zaccardo in the starting eleven. The match started fast as only nine minutes in Bosnia and Herzegovina international Edin Džeko headed-in a perfectly placed cross from Christian Gentner to give die Wölfe the 1-0 lead. However the hosts did not back down and showed a tight marking scheme that allowed few opportunities. Within the next fifteen minutes both Martin Fenin and Benjamin Köhler had their efforts to level fall short. Eight minutes before the hour mark Michael Fink broke free on 'keeper Diego Benaglio but his effort drifted wide, maintaining Wolfsburg's one goal margin. Six minutes past the hour the match turned with a morsel of contraversy as Leonard Kweuke was called of a handball in the area from Marcel Schäfer free-kick and the spot was pointed to. The other half of Wolfsburg Bosnian connection, Zvjezdan Misimović, stepped up and drove the ball into the back of the net to take the 2-0 lead.

Wolfsburg returns to play next Wednesday as they travel to Paris to face PSG in the UEFA Cup.
