With veins that teem with black & white blood, Alan Shearer has returned home!
It could come at no more important time and if one man can unite the club and fill confidence to the brim, it is he. To some, his lack of managerial experience is an issue but right now what the club needs is the boost that only a legend can provide. Solidarity, purpose, United.
The terms are simple, to complete the final eight matches of the campaign and from there decisions for the future will be made. The task is an uphill one but once again, his loyalty is unwavering and with Newcastle's back against the wall, he accepted the mantle of responsibility to lead the way to safety.
Mr. Shearer said to BBC Sport:
"It's a club I love and I don't want them to go down. I'll do everything I can to stop that.
"It's a tough, tough situation that the club is in. I feel deeply for this football club. I believe I can help it along with the players.
"There is a nucleus of good players that can get the club out of trouble.
"There are very, very good players that are just lacking in confidence and it's up to myself and the rest of the staff to get the best out of them.
"We are going to need every ounce of effort from the players and the supporters. The supporters are well renowned and I know they won't let us down. They never do and I hope we can repay them with a performance."
The curtain raises on the legend this Saturday as Chelsea visits St James' Park.
