En Avant Guingamp to the Coupe de France finals

The Cinderella story of En Avant Guingamp continued as they defeated Toulouse 2-1 in the Coupe de France semi-finals.

Despite being in the lower part of the Ligue 2 table Victor Zvunka's side attacked the high-flying Toulouse. Guingamp took the lead at the half hour mark as Felipe Saad's incoming throw-in was headed-on by Wilson Oruma to Eduardo, who nodded the ball into the back of the net. The Breton side were forced to play a man down six minutes into the half when Richard Soumah received his second yellow of the night. With seventeen minutes a long ball to André-Pierre Gignac clear down the right and with a perfect right-footed half volley into the net the match was level. However Victor Zvunka was able to get a taste of revenge in defeating the club he coached over fifteen years ago as with a minute on the clock Wilson Oruma cross into the box took careened off a group of players and into the far left corner with Badara Sène credited with the historic goal.

The Guingampais side will now face Stade Rennais on 9 May at the Stade de France in a all Breton Coupe de France final.

Rennais victorious in the Alps

Les Rouge et Noir have reserved their spot in the final of la Coupe de France that they last won in 1971 with a 1-0 victory over Grenoble at Stade des Alpes.

Despite the loss of Jimmy Briand, Guy Lacombe has done well to promote a club based upon solidarity and players stepping up to new responsibilities. Growing pains are obvious but performances have been commendable. Against well discipline Grenoble the task would be great but this building train of solidarity is the glue that has held them together. Following a turbulent beginning which threatened the match going forward, Rennais took the lead at the twentieth minute. Following Jérôme Leroy's cross from the left that was headed on by Bruno Cheyrou, the Grenoble goalkeeper and Romain Danzé collided and Moussa Sow sent in the loose ball. Empty of attacking answers, Mehmed Baždarević's Grenoble were unable to threaten in the attack until the final moments of the half Pierre Boya's effort caresses the crossbar. Returning from the break Cheick N'Diaye is sent in for an injured Nicolas Douchez. While energized and focused upon a needed goal, the Grenoblois lack the tactical cutting side to break through Rennais' defending. Missing a chance to silence Grenoble's chances, the hosts apply pressure but can't find a way and with referee's M Piccirilo whistle les Bretons head to the finale at Stade de France on 9 May.

Mateja Kežman leads PSG to victory in Coupe de France

Mateja Kežman lead PSG to a 3-0 victory against Ajaccio GFCO in the Coupe de France. With the back drop of petite Stade Ange Casanova, the home side put forth a brilliant effort and held pack the Ligue 1 side for much of the match. The fourth-division side were broke through at the twenty-fourth minute Guillaume Hoarau and Clément Chantôme provide Mateja the opportunity and the Serbian international quickly gave the Parisians the lead. With strong home support behind them, Ajaccio held strong before the hour mark when Ludovic Giuly sets up Mateja for his second mark on the score-sheet. Only seven minutes later Sammy Traoré and Stéphane Sessegnon link up with the veteran defender making it 3-0. The match concludes without incident and the match concludes with PSG heading home with a fine victory.

PSG returns to Lique 1 action next week against Caen.
