a good way to end

Monterrey's foul season ended with a 1-0 victory over the Pumas on the strength of Humberto Suazo's goal six minutes into the match. The loss leaves the Rayados fifth in Group 1 and sixteenth in the overall table. The victory will do little to erase the memory of the season and following the match Ricardo Lavolpe would not discuss the situation with the merely reiterated that he was headed on holidays. With this in mine, during the break will need to analyze its liabilities and make appropriate changes. While the clubs cupboard is full of quality, the level of focus, discipline and professionalism is arguably the wost in La Primera División and massive changes are in order.

a disappointing season comes to a close

Monterrey's disappointing season will come to a close shortly as they were mathematically eliminated from the playoffs with a 1-0 loss to América. The club will have roughly sixty days before they return to action and Ricardo Lavolpe will need to address the clubs glaring weaknesses in play but more importantly discipline and leadership. To ardent supporters it is bitter pill to swallow but leadership and discipline on the pitch is deplorable and the cause of many of their problems. While it seems ironic to note that they prepared for this season alternating between a Acapulco beach and a country club golf course but the "country-club" approach must end and a disciplined attitude must be implemented. Ricard Lavolpe is in my opinion the best manager in México today and although they have a very talented squad, their play was abysmal and excuses are pointless. A clear message must be made by Mr. Lavolpe and the management that changes are in the offing and less disciplined players should be moved if possible.

Little review of todays match is warranted as simple notation that Alfredo Moreno settled the match eleven minutes after the start as he took advantage of defending error and Monterrey was unable to break-through for the equalizing goal. The Rayados had numerous opportunites, including Humberto Suazo striking the cross-bar five minutes after the break but it wasn't to be.

Monterrey finishes it season off next Saturday against the Pumas at the Tecnológico.
