The
Green-Whites slide continued to six winless matches as they played to a 0-0 draw against VfL Bochum. This will be another in the list of disappointments for Thomas Schaaf to deal with as they had numerous chances for the winning goal, pelted Bochum goalkeeper Daniel Fernandes with shots but were unable to connect. As the match started, Werder was clearly the aggressor and looking to end their bad fortune. Mesut Özil threatened five minutes into the match before his finish went wide and with near constant possession they continued to press. At roughly the thirty minutes past the start, Diego's corner was ended just over the bar by Naldo. Naldo came close again on the hour only to hit the crossbar on a free-kick but with fourteen minutes remaining Tim Wiese saved the day with in-tight delivery from Marcin Mięciel. The match ended with further disappointment Mesut Özil red-carded for studs-first stomp on Bochum's Tomasz Zdebel and is deserving of additional disciplinary action.
