Behind the leadership of Bosnia and Herzegovina international Edin Džeko’s two goals, Wolfsburg defeated VfL Bochum 2-0. The victory maintains Wolfsburg remarkable unbeaten streak at home this year and sees them to seventh in the table, three points behind Leverkusen in the final spot for European competition.
With new additions Peter Pekarík and Yoshito Okubo in Felix Magath’s starting grid for the first time, Wolfsburg took the lead twenty-one minutes into the match as Zvjezdan Misimović played a perfectly weighted ball to Edin Džeko, who subsequently dispatched the ball behind Bochum ‘keeper Daniel Fernandes. However the normal dominating home performance wasn’t as vivid and the relegation threatened Bochum put up a stubborn fight and narrowly missed leveling before the hour when Slovakia international Stanislav Šesták’s perfect through ball to Mimoun Azaouagh was finished just over the bar. Fifteen minutes later Stanislav Šesták was provider again, crossing to Diego Klimowicz in the box but his header thumped off the cross bar. Edin Džeko completed the scoring with five minutes remaining as he re-directed Marcel Schäfer’s cross to the top right corner giving Wolfsburg the 2-0 victory.
Wolfsburg returns to play next Saturday as they travel to Frankfurt to face die Adler.
