Wolfsburg v VfL Bochum match preview

Following Wolfsburg's disappointing, yet highly predictable draw to Christoph Daum’s Köln side last week, they welcome VfL Bochum to Volkswagen Arena. While die Wölfe have yet to lose in their cozy home confines, Bochum served notice that they weren't about to be relegated so easily with a hearty 2-0 victory over Karlsruhe. Led by Austrian International Christian Fuchs and former BVB man Diego Klimowicz, Marcel Koller's squad showed a more resilient and opportunistic side than before the break.

Felix Magath is scratching his head about his clubs performance. Brilliant at home, their play is positively dreary whilst travelling and have yet to register a victory outside of the Volkswagen Arena. Prior to the match he said:

“If we can once again build a unit with our fans, as we did in the first half of the season, then there is no reason that we won’t be able to maintain our home strength. But there is no doubt that the game against Bochum will be a tough piece of work. Bochum made a good start to the second half of the season with a 2-0 win against Karlsruhe SC. They are going to want to add to that with an away success. But we must win, at the end of the day I have never won a game against Bochum with Wolfsburg.”

The only possible absence in the match is Grafite with Japan international Yoshito Okubo able to step in at a moments notice. Peter Pekarík, formerly of MŠK Žilina debuted brilliantly last week and could be seen from the start. Wolfsburg should expect Bochum to try to look the match down and will need creative leadership from Bosnia and Herzegovina duo of Zvjezdan Misimović and Edin Džeko to continue their winning streak.

As always I will report on the match as it concludes.
