The hunt for the Ukrainian champions started from the get-go as UEFA Cup Champions Shakhtar Donetsk started their campaign with a solid 3-0 victory over Kryvbas Kryvy Rih.

Ukrainian Premier League week 25

Week 25 of the Ukrainian Premier League concluded with Dynamo Kyiv racing towards the championship holding a twelve-point lead over second place Shakhtar Donetsk. With both clubs having an inside track on the Champions League, the race for spots three through five and a much-coveted spot in the Europa League is tighter than ever.

At the top of the table Dynamo Kyiv defeated Kharkiv 1-0 with Miloš Ninković scoring the matches lone goal ten minutes in. Mircea Lucescu's Shakhtar Donetsk overtook Chornomorets Odessa 1-0 with Willian's strike two minutes after the break. Metalist Kharkiv lost points in its race towards a Champions League spot, playing Metalurh Zaporizhya to a 1-1 draw. Milan Obradović gave Metalist the lead four minutes past the hour but with Kozaky leveling the match with five minutes remaining Olexiy Hodin finding the mark. Metalurh Donetsk defeated Illichivets 1-0 on Ciprian Ion Tănasă goal just before the break. Vorskla Poltava maintained its pace for the final Europa League spot with a 2-1 victory over Karpaty. Ihor Khudobyak brought the match level at the fifty-fourth minute. However a minute after the hour Vorskla grabbed the lead via a Vasyl Kobin own-goal. Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk kept its hopes alive for a Europa League berth with a come from behind 2-1 victory over Arsenal Kyiv. Arsenal took the lead five minutes in with Bohdan Shershun's before Oleksiy Byelik leveling before the break. Volodymyr Homenyuk added the winner on the hour to give Dnipro the victory. Elsewhere Tavriya Simferopol defeated Zorya Luhansk 2-1 while Lviv squeezed out a 1-0 victory over Kryvbas Kryvyi Rih.

Ukrainian Premier League week 23

Week 23 of the Ukrainian Premier League had few surprises as both Dynamo Kyiv and Shakhtar Donetsk won decisively as they head into their UEFA Cup matches this week.

Dynamo maintained its fifteen point lead on Shakhtar with a 3-0 victory over Chornomorets Odessa, however the match was decided till late. After veteran Ukraine international Andriy Nesmachnyi gave Dynamo the lead, Volodymyr Bondarenko squared it up just before the hour. Serhiy Kravchenko and Oleksandr Aliyev scored in the final twenty minutes to decide the match.

Shakhtar Donetsk overtook Metalist Kharkiv for second place as they defeated Arsenal Kyiv 3-0 with all strikes coming after the break. Oleksandr Hladky, Polands Mariusz Lewandowski and Jádson all broke the mark to seal the victory.



The upset of the week came as Metalist Kharkiv was held by Karpaty to a 1-1 draw. Marko Dević goal for Metalist five minutes after the break leveled the match after Serhiy Kuznetsov gave Karpaty the lead early in the match. The draw dropped Metalist a point behind Shakhtar.

Elsewhere Metalurh Donetsk overcame Lviv 1-0 with a goal by Velizar Dimitrov in the nintieth minute. Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk defeated Vorskla Poltava 2-1 with Serhiy Nazarenko scoring the winner with five minutes left. Zorya Luhansk defeated Kharkiv 2-0 with Parid Xhihani and Olexiy Kurilov striking for Luhansk. Metalurh Zaporizhya lost points on the race as they were held to a 1-1 draw to Illichivets and only saved from a defeat with Adolf Teikeu's goal with twenty-two minutes left. Kryvbas Kryvyi Rih defeated Tavriya Simferopol 1-0 with Serhiy Motuz scoring with thirteen minutes left in the opening half.

Ukrainian Premier League week 18

The Ukrainian Premier League started back up after the winter break, giving good reason to celebrate. With only Dynamo Kyiv and Metalist Kharkiv set to play the season, the race before mighty Dynamo is extremely close with only only three points separating four clubs.

Shakhtar Donetsk defeated Illichivets 2-1. Olexiy Hai gave Shakhtar the lead twenty-two minutes after the start when he turned in Vyacheslav Shevchuk pass from the six yard box. Nikolay Kashevsky canceled out the lead seven minutes after the break when he headed in Dmytro Vorobey's long range cross. However with eight minutes remaining Darijo Srna curling free-kick gave Shakhtar the 2-1 victory.



Metalurh Donetsk and Kryvbas Kryvyi Rih played to a 1-1 draw. Metalurh took lead when Serhiy Danylovsky scored eleven minutes after the break but Ruslan Kostyshyn leveled with nine minutes remaining. Kryvbas Kryvyi Rih finished one man down as Olexander Hrytsai was shown his second yellow with five minutes remaining.

Metalurh Zaporizhya defeated Zorya Luhansk 2-1. Parid Xhihani gave Zorya Luhansk the lead at the half hour mark but Serhiy Siliuk leveled before the break. Dmytro Nevmyvaka found the winner for the home side four minutes into injury time.

Vorskla Poltava defeated Tavriya Simferopol 1-0 as Andriy Boiko scored eleven minutes after the break.

Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk and relegation threatened Lviv played to a 1-1 draw. Ihor Il'kiv snatch the lead for Lviv ten minutes in but Vitaliy Lysytsky equalized the match three minutes after the break.

Arsenal defeatd Kharkiv 1-0 as Ionut Mazilu scored the lone goal twelve minutes after the opening whistle.

Karpaty defeated 3–0 Chornomorets with Serhiy Kuznetsov scoring at the sixteenth minute and then seven minutes after the hour. Denys Kozhanov made it 3-0 eleven minutes before the whistle after Aleksandar Trišović was sent off with his second yellow card.

Ukrainian Premier League week 17 summary

Week 17 of the Ukrainian Premier League concluded with Dynamo still maintaining its three point lead on the table.

The Dynamo Kyiv - Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk match went down to the last minute with Dynamo winning 2-1. Pape Diakhaté opened the scoring late for Dynamo with eleven minutes remaining with Florin Cernat doubling the margin in added time. However Dnipro fought back with Ukraine capped Andriy Rusol drawing one back a minute later.



Ruslan Fomin scored the lone goal leading Metalist to a 1-0 victory over Tavriya Simferopol



Ukraine international Olexander Hladkiy scored seven minutes past the hour to provide Shakhtar Donetsk a 1-0 victory over Karpaty.





Chornomorets Odessa came from behind to defeat Metalurh Donetsk 2-1. MetaDon took the lead ten minutes into the match with Ricardo Fernandes' goal before veteran Olexandr Kosyrin equalized the match nine minutes before the break with Ruslan Levyha netting the winner at the fifty-fifth minute.

Vorskla Poltava defeated Zorya Luhansk 2-0. Jovan Markoski gave Poltava the lead twenty minutes in with Ukraine international Serhiy Kravchenko doubling the margin with thirteen minutes remaining.

Lviv defeated Illichivets 2-1 with a very controversial late penalty strike. Borys Baranets' opened the scoring just before the break before Olexandr Ivaschenko leveled the match with seventeen minutes remaining. However in a very late penalty call resulted in Ukrainian capped veteran Vladyslav Vashchuk stepping up to the spot four minutes into added time and netting the winner.

Kryvbas Kryvyi Rih defeated Arsenal Kyiv 1-0 with Olexandr Melaschenko adding the lone goal in added time.

Metalurh Zaporizhya defeated Kharkiv 2-0 as Dragan Perišić opened the scoring only twelve minutes into the match. Ukraine U21 Vitaliy Vernydub doubled the lead nine minutes later and Kharkiv weren't able to break through.

Ukrainian Premier League week 16

Weekend sixteen of the Ukrainian Premier League concluded with Metalurh Donetsk dropping important points in the race while Shakhtar continued its climb up the table.

Shakhtar Donetsk defeated Lviv with Ukraine international Olexiy Hai scoring nine minutes after the re-start



and Luiz Adriano doubling the margin at the hour mark.

Metalist Kharkiv held on to defeat Zorya Luhansk 2-1. Zhovto-Syni took the lead eight minutes into the match with Seweryn Gancarzyk goal with up and coming star Ruslan Fomin scoring two minutes before the break. Luhansk's Georgi Tsimakuridze scored from the sport seven minutes after the break but they could not level the match.

Karpaty Lviv played Metalurh Donetsk to a 1-1 draw as they opened the scoring with Ihor Khudobiak's goal eighteen minutes after the start. Serhiy Danylovsky drew the match level one minute before the break and the match ended without a score after the break.

Arsenal Kyiv defeated Chornomorets Odessa 1-0 with Denys Oliynyk scoring with sixteen minutes remaining.

Vorskla Poltava defeated Kharkiv 2-1 with a late goal. Poltava took the lead with Jovan Markoski goal twenty-one minutes into the match before Kharkiv equalized Anderson Ribeiro equalized for Kharkiv six minutes before the half. However with fifteen minutes remaining Filip Despotovski to give Poltava the three points.

Tavriya Simferopol upset Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk as Pavel Hajduczek scored with twenty minutes remaining and Metalurh Zaporizhya and Kryvbas Kryvyi Rih played to a scoreless draw.

Chornomorets Odessa overwhelmed Metalurh Zaporizhya 3-1 with three unanswered goals after the break. Tavriya Simferopol and Illichivets fought to a 3-3 draw in a breathtaking match that featured two denied penalty kicks and another two goals from the spot. The match opened with Illichivets' Dmytro Vorobey being awarded a penalty kick only four minutes in but without a result. However twelve minutes later Constantyn Yaroshenko gave them the lead twelve minutes later and Oleksandr Sytnyk doubled the margin only two minutes following the first goal. Oleksandr Kovpak had a chance to bring a goal back twenty-one minutes into the match from the spot but his strike didn't provide the needed goal. Ivan Kryvosheienko made it 3-0 from the spot with eight minutes remaining in the half before Tavriya Simferopol storming back with three unanswered goals. Andriy Donets' added the first three minutes from the break with Lucky Idahor bringing them within one at the hour mark and Slobodan Marković leveling the match with twenty minutes remaining.




Karpaty Lviv defeated Lviv 4-2 as Valeriy Fedorchuk opened the scoring at the ten minute mark for Lviv with Hryhoriy Baranets' doubling it eleven minutes later. Karpaty Lviv responded with four unanswered goals. Serhiy Kuznetsov drew one back with four minutes later and Denys Kozhanov leveled the match twelve minutes after the restart. Ukrainian Premier League week 14 summary

Week fourteen of the Ukrainian Premier League ended with virtually no-changes in the table.



In a surprisingly close match Dynamo Kyiv narrowly defeated Lviv 1-0 as Badr El Kaddouri scored with fifteen minutes remaining as a rebound from a free-kick came to him just outside the box, to which he struck into the goal. This was obviously Lviv's finest match of the year and they showed a tremendous defending resolve holding Dynamo back.

Metalurh Donetsk defeated Metalurh Zaporizhya 3-1 to the delight of their home fans. Konstantinos Makridis gave Donetsk the lead thirty-one minutes from the start with Michael Alozi finding the tying goal ten-minutes after the break. However five minutes later Serhiy Tkachenko got the go-ahead goal and another five minutes later Vyacheslav Checher doubled the margin.



Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk defeated Kharkiv 2-0 but it was far from easy as Andriy Vorobei scored with twenty-one minutes remained and Serhiy Nazarenko guaranteed the victory at the eighty first minute with a perfectly placed free kick.

Arsenal defeated Karpaty Lviv 3-2 with a a goal-fest that started with four goals in the first fifteen minutes. Karpaty Lviv jumped in front as Alexander Guruli scored in the second minute. Arsenal equalized the match as Serhiy Zakarliuka scored from the spot two minutes later and took the lead with Syargey Kuzniatsov goal ten minutes into the match with Denys Kozhanov adding in four minutes later. Denys Oliynyk brought the match to within one nine minutes after the break but Arsenal held on for the victory.



Shakhtar Donetsk easily overcame Tavriya Simferopol 2-0 as Fernandinho scored with t a beautiful strike from just outside the box at the nineteenth minute and Yevhen Selezniov followed at the seventy-first minute.



Vorskla Poltava edged Chornomorets Odessa 1-0 with the lone goal coming from Serhiy Kravchenko eight minutes before the break.




Metalist Kharkiv defeated Kryvbas Kryvyi Rih 3-1 as Serhiy Valiaiev scored fourteen minutes in before Ruslan Fomin doubled the lead at the half-hour mark. Marko Devic added the third from the spot six minutes beyond the hour mark. Serhiy Motuz added a consolation goal with three minutes remaining.

Zorya Luhansk defeated Illichivets 2-1. Illichivets took the lead eighteen minutes in with Kostiantyn Yaroshenko's strike before Lima was red-carded two minutes before the half-hour and they were forced to play a man down. Stephane Baga leveled the match five minutes larter and with twenty-three minutes remaining Parid Xhihani scored the winner.

In answer to the question of "can anyone stop Dynamo Kyiv", the answer appears "no" as they swamped Karpaty Lviv 4-0 with Ismaël Bangoura and Ukrainian international Artem Milevsky scoring twice.




Metalurh Zaporizhya defeated Arsenal 2-1 on late heroics as Serhiy Silyuk scored two minutes into added time with a stunning long-range effortto give Kozaky the victory. Olexiy Hodin had leveled the match with twenty-three minutes remaining with a powerful left foot drive from the top of the box after Arsenal had taken the lead four minutes after the start with Denys Oliynyk's goal.






Metalist Kharkiv defeated Chornomorets 2-0 with Marko Dević scoring at the twenty-first minute and again with twenty minutes remaining.

Shakhtar Donetsk geared up for their Champions League match defeating Zorya Luhansk 3-1. However it was Luhansk that opened the scoring with Parid Xhihani finding the net three minutes into the match. Can anyone stop Dynamo Kyiv this year?

Twelve matches into the season and ex-Locomotiv Moscow manager Yuri Semin has Dynamo Kyiv not "just winning" but dominating in every facet of the game. With only two slip-ups, they are scoring at a five-fold clip to what they allow. Dynamo Kyiv faces Karpaty Lviv on Saturday in a match that should be no problem and they will likely rest players ahead of next weeks return to the Champions League against Porto.

The biggest match of the weekend is Metalurh Donetsk's visit to Vorskla Poltava. Both clubs have pulled away from the balance of the table and this match-up of the second and third position of the table could prove to be very important later-on as European spots are won.

Ukrainian Premier League week 12 summary

It seems almost impossible but after week twelve match, the table remained with each team in precisely the same position as it started. However the class the league is definitely Dynamo Kyiv as it defeated Tavriya Simferopol 3-1 on the work of Ukraine's great young striker Artem Milevskiy.



While of course it is remarkable that the tables were left the same it is due to something not-so "exciting" as with the exception of one match all were draws with four scoreless. That must be some sort of record however in the "other" decision of the weekend Metalist Kharkiv defeated Metalurh Donetsk 2-0. Zhovto-Syni left the scoring till the final four minutes of time with Serbian international Aleksandar Trišović (Тришович) being the benificiary of a defensive mishap as he pulled in a long ball near the box and quickly scored. Two minutes later a beautiful crossing pass Andriy Koniushenko found on the back post for a clinical finish.







Possibly the biggest piece of news is that Shakhtar Donetsk, after a horribly lethargic 0-0 draw to Kharkiv is said to have offered a managerial position to Juande Ramos, recently let-go by Tottenham of England's Premier League.



Elsewhere in the Ukrainian Premier League Chornomorets played Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk to a 1-1 draw with international capped veteran scoring. Andriy Vorobei opened the scoring at the seven minute mark for Dnipriany before Oleksandr Kosyrin tied it seven minutes later.
