PSG defeated Monaco 1-0 in the opening match defense of their Coupe de la Ligue title. The lone goal of the match came off a Jérôme Rothen that was pounced upon by Fabrice Pancrate and slotted to the back of the goal ten minutes before the break. Monaco pressing for the leveling strike but could not break through.
