Monterrey returned to action after last weeks victory over Pachuca with 1-0 loss to Jaguares at Estadio Victor Manuel Reyna. With the loss Monterrey falls to third in Group 1 and fifth in the overall table. For the match Víctor Manuel Vucetich made no changes to last weeks lineup as the Rayados looked to continue their winning ways with a strong defensive intent. The hosts created a multitude of scoring chances throughout the match, however each time the final touch was either slightly off-course or Rayados 'keeper Christian Martínez denied them with a brilliant display. Alternatively the attack force of Aldo de Nigris and Humberto "Chupete" Suazo was effectively nullified by the host tenacious defending and limited to a few random chances. Unfortunately after a brilliant display Monterrey 'keeper Christian Martínez erred with five minutes left as he mishandled Neri Cardozo long cross and the ball fell to Danilinho who then sent the ball into the net to give the Jaguares the 1-0 victory.
