Borussia Mönchengladbach edge close to safety with win over Cottbus

Borussia won its second match in a row, defeating Energie Cottbus 1-0 with Dante's late goal. Die Fohlen ranking tenth in the Rückrunde are three points above the drop with only two weeks remaining in the Bundesliga season.

For much of the match the general tone was near flawless discipline on both ends and sheer brilliance in simplest side of the game. Tackling had the appropriate bite to it, particularly from Tobias Levels would not be deterred but both sides showed patience going forward. Clearly Hans Meyer was going to bolt their hosts advances down with a clear plan of pin point assaults when opporunities opened. After the break Borussia started to assert itself with Karim Matmour coming with a fraction of scoring before his attempt was cleared. Gradually the pace started to wear on Borussia and Bojan Prašnikar urged his side to push forward for the three points. With ten minutes remaining Dušan Vasiljević entered for Cottbus and Borussia was on unsteady ground as the hosts were relentless. However as regulation time came to a end, Borussia was able to push forward, winning a corner. Stepping up to the ball Mark Marin's cross was headed by Dante off the crossbar and in. Borussia supporters in the opposite corner exploded in support as the celebration began. After killing off the final moments, the team came straight over the corner many throwing their shirts into the stands as the dream of fighting to safety looks closer to the truth now.

Talk all you will of "Coach of the Year" and though few will look at this end of the table, what Hans Meyer has accomplished is incredible and should never be second-guessed. Courage and Faith Borussia, the task nears completion.
