Paris Saint-Germain falls 1-0 to Rennais

Perfectly positioned to jump into a Champions League spot, Paris Saint-Germain will remember their 1-0 loss to Rennais as a missed opportunity. The loss leaves the Parisians a point behind Lyonnais with four matches remaining.

Without the services of Sammy Traoré, Clément Chantôme and Guillaume Hoarau les Rouge et Bleu went forward in-front of the Parc des Princes faithful and while they provided numerous scoring chances, finishing was insufficient. Just past the quarter-hour Stéphane Sessegnon forced the best out of the Rennais 'keeper Nicolas Douchez and prior to the break Jérôme Rothen's free-kick was re-directed a whisper over the bar from Mamadou Sakho. After the Rennais 'keeper held back Péguy Luyindula and Jérémy Clément with two superb saves, the visitors took the lead via a Mamadou Sakho own goal. With twenty-four minutes remaining PSG academy product Jérôme Leroy mishit volley careened off the upper shin of the young defender and slowly drifted into the net past Mickaël Landreau. Down by one, Paris Saint-Germain searched for the equalizer and despite maintaining constant pressure could not find the needed touch, losing 1-0.
