Genoa v Inter Milan match preview

Nestled in fifth place of the Serie A table, the Rossoblu welcome Inter Milan to Stadio Luigi Ferraris. After a brilliant early winter run, Gian Piero Gasperini's side have slowed over the last five matches with only two victories and series of sub-par performances. The root of the problem spreads wide as while they are showing a highly disciplined style of play they have become somewhat predictable and wise defensive minded sides in Serie A have learned the secret to keeping the attack nailed down. This naturally is a thought provoking concern of the manager as he must stretch the clubs attacking pulse from areas of comfort to tactical approaches that they have shied away from.

However in another note the idea of tactical changes might be a morsel harsh because it seems Mr. Mutu's final goals in the Fiorentina match had a curious knife through the heart of their confidence. What was once so apparent is no longer and over the last two weeks the Rossoblu have drifted through shaky grounds against Napoli and Siena. While their is a time and a place for endless tactical ploy, subtle moves of the chessboard and the zwischenzug of play that is impossible to see from other than the pitch, confidence is lacking and yet that is the elixir they need the most.

For the match Gian Piero Gasperini is without Matteo Paro and Anthony Van Den Borre and will go forward with his customary 3-4-3 formation using Giandomenico Mesto, Diego Milito and former Crvena zvezda man Boško Janković forming the attacking trident. The midfield of Marco Rossi,Thiago Motta, Ivan Jurić and Domenico Criscito must re-start its lagging attack of late, particularly using channel attacks against the Nerazzurri. The unsung hero of Genoa, Matteo Ferrari, will anchor the back three with Giuseppe Biava and Salvatore Bocchetti. Inter, led by possibly the most annoying manager in Football José Mourinho, have been steamrolling towards the trophy podium but recently shown a flicker of doubt, losing to Sampdoria in the Coppa Italia. Make no mistake, personality and a peculiar need to be in-front of the media aside, Mr. Mourinho will have his club ready to their utmost potential thus requiring a strong, confident Genoa.
