Genoa v Sienna match preview

Following last weeks reassuring 1-0 defeat of Napoli, Genoa travel to beautiful Tuscany to face Sienna at Stadio Artemio Franchi. While much attention throughout Genoa's campaign has paid to upper table clubs, the Bianconeri are a side far better than their lower table standing. While lacking in firepower, Marco Giampaolo's side demonstrate tremendous tactical discipline and maintain shape, all hallmarks of quality coaching and are one of the better defensive clubs in Serie A. For the Rossoblu, they will need show patience and slowly buildup play to unlock Sienna's sturdy back four of Juan Zúñiga, Daniele Portanova, Gonçalo Brandão and Cristiano Del Grosso. Genoa's style of movement is possibly the best suited towards Sienna's preparation and Gian Piero Gasperini will need alter typical tactics, consider greater width and look to create opening via channel attacks if they are to be successful.

Both sides are near fully-fit with Genoa's only notable absences being Anthony Vanden Borre and Matteo Paro although there are modest concerns over the health of Raffaele Palladino and Boško Janković. The Rossoblu will push forward in their typical 3-4-3, with Giandomenico Mesto, Diego Milito and former Crvena zvezda man Boško Janković forming the attacking trident. Midfield play of Marco Rossi,Thiago Motta, Ivan Jurić and Domenico Criscito must exhibit an extremely high work rate or Sienna will lock down the match but equally allow Genoa to creep forward, only to launch a counter with its attack-force of Houssine Kharja, Abdelkader Ghezzal and Massimo Maccarone.
