Leeds squeezes out draw with Luciano Becchio's goal

Since arriving from Mérida UD, Luciano Becchio has been a stellar performer for Leeds, creating opportunities and having a keen eye towards the goal. With the Argentine maestro has still yet to hit full stride, if the Whites are able to win promotion a great deal of credit is due to the twenty-five year-old product of the Boca Juniors.

Once again Luciano's work paid rich dividends for Leeds as he found the net to provide Leeds a much needed 1-1 draw against Oldham Athletic. With the draw Leeds edges to fifth in the table, trailing the Latics by three points.

With Luciano returning from the suspension, Simon Grayson immediately penciled him into the starting grid with Jermaine Beckford and eased the young Scot, Robert Snodgrass, to the right wing. From the opening whistle Leeds bristled with confidence and searched for an early strike. A early cross by Robert Snodgrass narrowly missed Luciano by a whisper and just before the half hour the young Scot provided a quality opportunity to Jermaine Beckford but his header drifted high. However with some noteworthy defending the match went to the break deadlocked without a mark.

Upon returning, Oldham found the back of the net when Casper Ankergren was beat from the snuggest of angles as Lee Hughes volleyed in Deane Smalley's provision to make it 1-0. However the lead didn't last long and once again it was Luciano who stormed back. A moment after the goal the Argentine's attempt was flicked over the bar by Lactic's 'keeper Greg Fleming. However the ensuing corner could not be held back as Luciano nodded in the ball from the six yard box to bring the match even. With the match level Leeds hunted for the go-ahead goal and whilst Jonathan Douglas and Fabian Delph had opportunities, the Oldham 'keeper was brilliant in holding them back. Without a further strike the match concluded with a 1-1 draw.
