Superiour in every way except for what matters the most, BVB lost to Stuggart 2-1. With the loss die Schwarzgelben are still win-less in the Rückrunde and starting to see their Europa League hopes disappear.

In a surprise move Jürgen Klopp added Dedê to the starting eleven with Lee Young-Pyo returning from suspension and Egyptian international Mohamed Zidan and Nelson Valdez as the attacking tandem up front. With the firm goal of limiting scoring chances for Mario Gómez, VfB took the lead ten minutes into the match as Élson free kick found the far corner of the net. Within minutes Gómez and Georg Niedermeier threatened to increase the margin but BVB was simply fortunate to stay in the match. The final ten minutes BVB poured forward but effort after effort fell for naught and the match ended with a 2-1 loss.
