Within a difficult year, the Green Whites have a chance for a bit of redemption at San Siro today in their UEFA Cup match against AC Milan.
After a 1-1 draw at Weserstadion last week, the Serie A club holds a distinct advantage with the away goal. However their coach, Carlo Ancelotti, is claiming they have "could" be down to one striker Fillipo Inzaghi as Andriy Shevchenko, Alexandre Pato and Ronaldinho are questionable.
Arriving Milan, Werder was notably quiet and focused on the match. Klaus Allofs said:
"We definitely did not tell them to keep quiet. But maybe that was already the concentration of the game that we felt.
"I am confident that we will play a good game. Whether it's enough to reach the next round we will have to see," said the manager, who assumes it will do the team good being underdogs.
Thomas Schaaf is without Tim Wiese, giving Christian Vander a chance to step into goalkeeping duties and will also miss Jurica Vranješ. Torsten Frings back from suspension as Werder will look to drive forward for a important win.
In an odd note, apparently local fans aren't very interested in this match as only 15,000 tickets have been sold.
