Os Dragões gained a strong advantage over Atlético de Madrid with a 2-2 draw at Vicente Calderón and sit on the verge of moving to the next stage of the Champions League.
The match started rough for the visiting Porto as Maxi Rodríguez gave Atlético the lead three minutes as slipped behind lax defending efforts to receive Sergio Aguero well-weighted ball to power the ball behind Porto 'keeper Helton. However Lisandro López leveled the match midway the half after he was left unmarked in a poor defensive moment. Sloppy defending continued as Diego Forlán gave the home side the lead before the break as his harmless shot skipped through the Helton's mitts and into the net. After the break, Porto had a number of opportunities to bring the match even but stubborn home side held strong. Finally with eighteen minutes remaining Lisandro López found the much needed equalizer when he turned in Aly Cissokho's perfect cross. While Os Dragões pressured for the winning strike, it could not be found and the match concluded as a 2-2 draw.
Porto returns to action this Saturday in a showdown against Sporting.
