Rangers advance to quarter-finals of Scottish Cup

With a 4-0 victory over third division side Forfar, the Rangers advance to the quarter-finals of the Scottish Cup. Although the small club put forth a solid effort that was otherwise commendable, the match was marred with a horrific tackle by Elliot Smith on DaMarcus Beasley. The Gers took the lead seven minutes in with Saša Papac accepting Kenny Miller pass and finishing professionally. However with the one goal lead, Walter Smith side showed little resolve to kill off the match and went to the break with a paltry 1-0 lead. Eight minutes after the restart a poor clearance by Forfar, provides Kenny Miller a chance, to which he does not fail and the match is now 2-0. After DaMarcus Beasley is hacked down with twenty minutes remaining, nineteen year old Spain U21 Aarón Ñíguez replaces him, adding his name to the score-sheet with six remaining as he links up with Kyle Lafferty for a solid goal. Finally with a minute remaining Steven Davis plays a perfect back post cross to Kyle Lafferty, who subsequently nods on to Kenny Miller for a close range effort bringing the match to a 4-0 final.

The Rangers return to action this Saturday against Kilmarnock.
