strong effort by Eintracht ends in defeat

Burdened with a ongoing injury problems, Eintracht Frankfurt put forth a strong team wide performance but lost to Wolfsburg 2-0. While the overall defending performance was impressive, the result leaves die Adler only three points upon the relegation zone.

With Chris suspended Friedhelm Funkel brought in Habib Bellaïd into the central defenders and unfortunately he was victimized early has Edin Džeko slipped his mark to head-in a Christian Gentner's cross. Handicapped down by one only ten minutes into the match, Eintracht was able to close the opponents advances but could not find a way to launch a successful attack. Much of the play was restricted outside of the final third and the match went to the break 1-0. At the restart Leonard Kweuke was brought in for Alexander Meier but still the structure was lacking and Diego Benaglio was challenged with anything noteworthy. Although usually limited to their home matches, Wolfsburg received benefit of a very suspect call a few minutes past the hour mark when Marcel Schäfer's free-kick into the area struck the wall and Leonard Kweuke was called for a handball. With the spot pointed to, Zvjezdan Misimović drilled the beyond Markus Pröll and the match was sealed off.

Although the loss does not help the die Adler position in the table, the defending display is commendable as they shut down Wolfsburg for the most part and showed they they are capable of challenging the top level of the league. Next week is match of great significance as Eintracht travels to face Karlsruhe.
