Borussia wins with late goal by Oliver Neuville

The Borussia resurgence since the start of Rückrunde continued today with a 3-2 victory over Hannover 96. Undefeated in three matches, it is evident that Hans Meyer has carefully crafted a sound plan with a group playing with pride and courage.

Marko Marin returned to the lineup, in place of Tony Jantschke with greater attacking intention. In the early stages of the match both sides were cautious with Borussia creating a few speculative efforts via Michael Bradley but all handled with ease by 96 'keeper Robert Enke. By the fifteenth minute the momentum had shifted at Borussia-Park and die Fohlen were lucky not to fall behind with Jiří Štajner and Mikael Forssell both coming close. Scoring chances slowed till ten minutes remained in the half with Alexander Baumjohann, from Marko Marin, scored from twenty-four metres. Confidently Borussia went forward with Marko Marin adding the second from the center of the box make it 2-0.

After the break, Borussia started well but Sérgio Pinto drew on back from twenty metres eight minutes in. Not comfortable with the one goal lead, Herr Meyer brought in Oliver Neuville for Marco Marin at the seventieth minute but still 96 was controlling the run of play. Their dedication paid off with the thirteen minutes remaining when Christian Schulz headed the ball from in the box. Knowing three points was a must, Borussia did not falter or wilt under the pressure as the great veteran and German international Oliver Neuville scored the winning goal six minutes later giving Borussia the 3-2 victory.
