Wolfsburg European hopes fall with 2-0 loss to PSG

Wolfsburg European hopes took a massive downward spiral as they fell 2-0 to PSG at Parc des Princes with a half-hearted effort.

Against a PSG side that was resting Claude Makélélé, Ludovic Giuly, Stéphane Sessegnon, Mickaël Landreau, Ceará and Jérémy Clément from their normal lineup, Felix Magath's attack were surprisingly toothless and did not present a respectable scoring threat through the majority of the match. Seemingly comfortable with a nil draw Wolfsburg could not break through the determined French defenders. Gradually the home side took control and the final hour of the match the only notable efforts were theirs. Any hopes of returning to Volkswagen Arena without a deficit were thrown away as Guillaume Hoarau scored twice in the final eleven minutes, heading on set pieces as Wolfsburg lost 2-0.

In what was likely the worst performance of the year for Wolfsburg, Felix Magath commented post-match that the club would fight from the first minute of the return match to overcome the deficit.
