Leeds fall to Tranmere but show promise

Leeds horrible home record continued as Tranmere handed them a 2-1 loss, albeit one laced with very questionable calls. With three losses in their previous four matches, Leeds has tumbled down to seventh position, nine solid points behind Leicester City and in-need of re-invigorating their desires to promotion. However let me also stress that as a loss, this was possibly the most valuable of the season and one that can be built upon. Tactically Leeds presented a worthwhile 4-3-3 using Robert Snodgrass, Enoch Showunmi and Luciano Becchio up-front and while it lacked a certain amount of punch that Fabian Delph would create, it showed tremendous promise. As Fabian Delph and Jermaine Beckford return to the lineup and Jonny Howson moves to a wing position, this is a winning lineup that will take Leeds to the Championship.

Leeds took the lead as Fraser Richardson redirected Robert Snodgrass cross to Enoch Showunmi for a close-range goal. Tranmere leveled six minutes later as Antony Kay scooped up a error by 'keeper David Lucas from ten meters out. Four minutes before the half-hour mark Luciano Becchio goal bound attempt was heading towards the line before Tranmere 'keeper got to the ball. Four minutes after the break, David Lucas' day to forget continued as Ian Moore's strike from roughly eighteen meters somehow alluded him and into the net. Leeds leveled the match on the hour as Luciano Becchio headed-in Robert Snodgrass corner but somehow the goal was pulled back on a questionable call. Leeds continued to press for the equalizer, including a curious non-call of a hand-ball but the match ended with a 2-1 loss.

Leeds returns to League One action next week as they welcome Colchester United to Elland Road.
