As predicted by Jürgen Klopp todays match between Arminia Bielefeld and BVB was a hard fought match with Bielefeld defending relentlessly on the way to a nil draw. A great deal of credit is due to them as just like they did against VfB and Schalke 04, they stymied the schwarzgelben with a resolve towards solid defending. The result drops BVB to seventh in the table at twenty-six points, eight between Bayern and 1899 Hoffenheim, tied at first. While Jürgen Klopp will take solace knowing Roman Weidenfeller’s goal hasn’t been breached in four-hundred seventeen minutes, the attack side is reason for concern.
The match started with Bielefeld clearly not worried of merely defending as they nearly took the lead a few minutes in but Polish national Artur Wichniarek’s effort flicked off the post to safety. BVB’s chances were few and far between although Alexander Frei missed a perfect chance in-close just before the break. Jakub Błaszczykowski entered the match after the break and the impact was swift and notable. Suddenly BVB had the jump on the ball and the inspiration to attack. Attempts came quickly such as Florian Kringe’s shot eight minutes into the new half and Tinga’s five minutes later, yet each fell short. Diego Klimowicz was presented a close range rebound with eight minutes remaining but his attempt drifted wide and the match concluded as a scoreless draw.
