Injury crisis at striker as Yakubu out for season

Everton's victory over Tottenham today came at the heftiest of prices as Nigerian striker Yakubu ruptured his Achilles tendon and is out for season. The injury came eleven minutes into the match and in a further troublesome event, Louis Saha came in for him and left the match with nineteen minutes remaining with a torn hamstring. Along with the James Vaughan injury, Everton's strike force is reduced to Victor Anichebe and the club is obviously in dire need of a striker.

David Moyes spoke of the situation:

"We've had no luck injury-wise. But I'm hopeful that the group will work hard and respond to the challenge, especially Anichebe who, whilst only young, has real quality. It is well documented that we don't have great amounts of cash here and getting involved in January certainly wouldn't have been our ideal plan. But the chairman has always backed me and clearly we can't go through the rest of the season if we only have one fit striker. We'll see where we are and what we can do when the time comes in the new year."
