VfB out performs Schalke winning 2-0

It is as clear as day that the arrival of Markus Babbel has brought a new found toughness to the squad as die Roten handed Schalke a 2-0 defeat. If you're going to pick out a hero of the day, start first with Jens Lehmann who after Arthur Boka was adjudged to fouling Kevin Kurányi in the area, the thirty-nine year old 'keeper calmly dispatched Jefferson Farfán's effort and consistently pushed the forces forward yet both sides had a series of opportunities but lacked the finishing touch and the match remained scoreless till the final third. However with twenty-seven minutes remaining Jan Šimák was called upon and the Czech international did not disappoint. At the seventy-ninth minute Khalid Boulahrouz sent a long ball to Šimák, who then left-footed chipped the ball over on-rushing Schalke 'keeper Manuel Neuer. With seven minutes remaining, German international Mario Gómez closed the match off as he capitalized on loose ball after a odd mash-up between Jermaine Jones and Sami Khedira. Schalke attempted to draw one back but their best effort by Kevin Kurányi was headed wide and VfB had a great victory!
