PSV's visit of Abe Lenstra Stadion to face Heerenveen can easily be summarized as a battle of two clubs in need of a confidence builder. Heerenveen are an exciting, youthful side with endless promise who came completely undone last week falling 6-0 to Twente. While it is impossible to ignore such a result, it is likely best termed as "one off" and you can expect Trond Sollied to go back on the attack without a second thought. Without a doubt, for the defensive blunder plagued PSV, Heerenveen will be a significant test. Unfortunately PSV efforts will be challenged as they will be without the services of Ibrahim Afellay and Dirk Marcellis is doubtful.
Prior to the match Hubb Stevens commented:
“I don’t believe it will be hard to put the Champions League defeat against Atlético Madrid behind us. We will face a new challenge when we take on sc Heerenveen on Saturday night and we will do our utmost to get a good result. I just hope Heerenveen will be in the same form as last week, but actually I’m afraid they will aim to bounce back from their humiliating 6-0 thrashing at the hands of FC Twente.”
I'm not sure if there was a joke intended with that but I would not expect Heerenveen to lay-down at all and in-fact will look to respond in-front of their great fans.
Hubb Stevens continued to discuss PSV's issues:
“This squad needs to be really focused all the time in every single game. The coaching staff should see to it that PSV will be sharp and show fighting spirit tomorrow night.”
With that comment I completely agree. PSV needs to address their own motivation and resolve.
I will report on the match as it concludes.
