The opening weekend of matches began on Saturday with FC Moskva continuing their impressive start to the campaign with a 1-0 defeat of Saturn Moskovskaya Oblast via Boca Juniors-product Héctor Bracamonte strike at the seventy-sixth minutes (full report here).
Earlier in the day Tom Tomsk defeated Spartak Nalchik 1-0 with Belarus international Sergei Kornilenko coming off the bench to score the winner with thirteen minutes remaining (full report here).
While only a temporary solution the Valery Karpin "era" for Spartak Moskva began with an important 2-0 victory over Terek Grozny led by goals from Russian international Vladimir Bystrov and Welliton (full report here).
In the final match on Saturday Oleg Dolmatov's Rostov might have problems finding the score-sheet but once they proved to be a formidable defending unit. With perfect disciplined play they held Kryliya Sovetov to a scoreless draw and have only given up two strikes in the first five weeks.
Sunday's lineup started with Amkar Perm's first victory of the campaign as they defeated Kuban Krasnodar 1-0 via Ivan Cherenchikov's goal fifteen minutes into the match. Following the match Krasnodar manager Sergei Ovchinnikov expressed the difficulty in playing in Amkar in respect to the substantial home support. Amkar looks to continue their winning form as they travel to face Spartak Nalchik next Sunday whilst the Cossacks welcome Lokomotiv Moskva.
Serbian international Miloš Krasić lead CSKA Moskva to an emphatic 3-0 victory over Khimki as he supplied all three goals including one highlight reel shot that will not be forgotten soon. (full match report)
The battle for the top spot between Rubin Kazan and Dinamo Moskva ended with the defending champions easily winning 3-0. Gurban Berdiýew went on the attack early as Roman Sharonov opened the scoring nine minutes in with former Zenit Saint Petersburg man Alejandro Domínguez doubled it eleven minutes later. A late own goal by Dinamo's Kirill Kombarov sealed the match at 3-0. Rubin Kazan welcomes Spartak Moskva net Saturday while Dinamo hosts Kryliya Sovetov.
Zenit Saint Petersburg were stopped dead in their tracks by a determined Lokomotiv Moskva in route to a 1-1 draw (full match report).
