Catania holds Genoa tough with 1-1 draw

Sicily's Catania frustrated Genoa again with a tactically sound plan on the way to a 1-1 draw at Stadio Luigi Ferraris. The Rossoblu, normally strong at home, were stymied by Walter Zenga's Catania side who controlled much of the run of the play, displaying patience and discipline. Gian Piero Gasperini called upon Diego Milito to return from injury up-front with Giuseppe Sculli and Serbian international Boško Janković but it was clear that Il Principe was a morsel off with inactivity. To no-ones surprise Catania's early chances came off set-pieces with Giuseppe Mascara coming within a whisper of scoring. Before the break Genoa came close with Salvatore Bocchetti nodding Giandomenico Mesto's cross against the woodwork and half concluded at a nil draw. Just past the hour mark the Grifone's chances were drawn back as Matteo Ferrari was excused with his second yellow, albeit a very questionable booking. Catania did not waste the man advantage as six minutes later Uruguayan international Jorge Andrés Martínez headed Davide Baiocco cross to the back of the net. Pressing to level the match, fortune fell Genoa's way as Marco Rossi's cross managed to make its way to Diego Milito, to which he quickly dispatched into the net. While the Rossoblu hunted for the winner, it could not be found and the match ended as a 1-1 draw.

Genoa returns to play this Wednesday against AC Milan.
