PSG continues winning ways with 2-0 defeat of Caen

PSG's championship hopes took a step forwards as they climb to third place in Ligue 1 table following a 2-0 victory over Caen today at Parc des Princes. It however was far from a easy victory as our western neighbours put forth a strong effort and held the Parisians scoreless before the break. Although PSG controlled the overall run of play they needed the handiwork of Mickaël Landreau to hold back Benjamin Nivet's effort eight minutes in. PSG continued to launch attacking efforts with Péguy Luyindula and Guillaume Hoarau each missing the finishing touch before the break.

The deadlock was broken after the restart with two goals within ten minues. Four minutes after the case, Guillaume Hoarau continued his case for Les Bleus as he gave PSG the lead when he capitalized on a rebound. As Jérémy Sorbon's clearance attempt was controlled by Jérémy Clément and subsequently lashed to the goal, the Caen's 'keeper Vincent Planté insufficient parry feel to the young striker who made no mistake and sent it into the net. Two minutes before the hour a similar theme was repeated as Péguy Luyindula made it 2-0 when Stéphane Sessegnon's provision to Guillaume Hoarau resulted in a drive to Vincent Planté but once again the rebound was preyed upon and poached in. With lead, Paul Le Guen was comfortable at locking down attacking play and sought the services of Clément Chantôme and Serbian maestro Mateja Kežman to help kill the match off. While Caen came close to finding the goal to get back within one, it was not to be and the hearty PSG faithful celebrated the triumph.

PSG returns to action this Wednesday against Bordeaux in the Coupe de la Ligue.
