J-League week 29 summary

With only five weeks left in the J-League season, week 29 will be known for it a number of critical upsets, most notably Kawasaki Frontale's loss and Nagoya Grampus Eight continued fall as they were held to a draw by mid-table Yokohama F. Marinos.

The Antlers narrowly escaped with a 2-1 victory against Kyoto Sanga. Kashima was clearly the aggressor in the match however lacked in finishing. Newly capped Japan international Shinzo Koroki opened the scoring nineteen minutes into the match to give the Antlers the lead before Yutaka Tahara tied the match two minutes before the break. However six minutes after the break, displaying some slick ball handling through defense, Marquinhos scored the winning strike.

The attacking trident of Renatinho, Kazuki Ganaha and Juninho were held in check as twenty-one year old Takuma Edamura found the back of the net for S-Pa twenty-four minute into the match after being set up Shinji Okazaki. Fifteen minutes after the break S-Pa doubled the lead as Shinji Okazaki was once-again the set-up man this time serving up Kazuki Hara.

In the battle of the weekend Ōita came out on top 1-0 on Shingo Suzuki's goal twenty-four minutes into the match. The Gas Men attempted to apply offensive pressure but couldn't break through the best defense in the league and their five match unbeaten streak came to an end.

Takuya Matsuura gave Jubilo Iwata the lead thirteen minutes after the start however Gamba found the leveler three minutes later with Tomokazu Myojin's goal. With only a minute left on the clock, Gamba was applying constant pressure as Masato Yamazaki struck the winning goal.

Although on the losing end, Consadole Sapporo played one of its best matches in quite some time. The match was scoreless until eight minutes before the break when Minoru Suganuma gave Reysol the lead. Playing for honour, Consadole Sapporo threw everyone forward and Alex doubled the lead with two minutes remaining.

Still one of the great stories of late season JEF unbeaten streak grows to seven matches as they now have miraculously moved out of the relegation battle. Alex Miller has unquestionably turned this club around and will be a hot commodity in the market this off-season.
