Steaua Bucureşti knocked out of Romanian Cup
Steaua Bucureşti was knocked out of the Romanian Cup as they were defeated 2-0 by FC Sportul Studenţesc (Bucureşti) of Liga II.
With the Roş-Albaştrii sitting in second place behind Dinamo Bucureşti and facing an important match on Friday against Oţelul Galaţi, Marius Lăcătuş had a tough decision with squad selection. Couple in a Champions League match next Tuesday against Lyon and a further Liga 1 match Gloria Buzău the following Sunday, he decided to rest his entire starting eleven. The plan backfired as Adrian Falub's Sportul Studenţesc overcame the Bucureşti giants with second-half goals by Costin Curelea and Dacian Varga, sending the twenty-time Romanian Cup winners home in a shocking defeat.
