Wales climbs to second in Group 4

With a comfortable 2-0 victory over Liechtenstein at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium Wales climbs to second-place, a single point behind Germany. However while the three points are welcomed, John Toshack knows this was far from an optimal performance and they will need to play considerably better in their match against Germany on Wednesday.

Liechtenstein, who were erroneously described as a "pub team" prior to the match, were anything and showed a very sturdy defense. While Wales controlled much of the play and the balance of scoring attacks they didn't break through till three minutes before time when Wolverhampton's David Edwards found the back of the net. Opportunities to increase the lead were squandered just as easy, including Craig Bellamy's missed penalty and Wales were unable to kill the match off till Man City's Ched Evans header with ten minutes remaining.

Wales heads to Germany for a crucial match in their World Cup qualifying hopes this Wednesday.
